About
TennesseeCAN
and our Vision
We believe every student should have access to great teachers and a great school that ensures they graduate high school academically prepared for lifelong success.

Our Mission
If we achieve our vision, we’ll see a Tennessee where:

-
-
- We hold high expectations for students and teachers, and we ensure they are well-supported to meet those expectations.
- We have rich and diverse school options for where and how students learn, and families are enabled and empowered to choose the education option that’s best for their students.
- We have strong measurement, performance incentives and accountability in place for schools and systems to ensure the academic success of all students.
-
Believe in Better
The local advocacy campaigns across the 50CAN network are based in states all across the country, from Hawaii to Georgia, and Connecticut to Louisiana. Despite the differences in local contexts, our campaigns are united in working to deliver on 5 promises to America’s children:
IMPORTANT TENNESSEE ISSUES
A Family’s Freedom to Send their Child to the School that’s Right for Them
Clear, Timely and Actionable Reporting on School Quality, Funding and Student Outcomes
Innovative Supports to Ensure Success for Students, Teachers and Schools
Our Team
TennesseeCAN was first launched in 2011 as StudentsFirst Tennessee to advocate for smart, student-centered K-12 education reform policies. Today, we continue that work on behalf of Tennessee students and families with a clear and relentless focus on always doing what’s best for kids.
